Wednesday, Oct 28, 2026 is Fed day, and two of the biggest AI names report after the close. So we asked EZRA, our AI research analyst, the question all over the feeds this week: is the AI trade about to crack? Then we checked every level it gave us against EZPZ data from Monday's close, and kept only what held up. The picture is clear: dealers go into the Fed short gamma in the index funds and long gamma in every AI name we looked at.

All figures are from the close on Oct 27, 2026, captured before the open on Oct 28. Dealer gamma, gamma flips and the Dark Pool Index are estimates. They describe positioning, not direction.

What we asked EZRA

We asked EZRA four questions at 12:36 AM ET on Wednesday, in Day mode. It researched each one live: it pulled the options chains, read the EZPZ regime for every ticker and found each gamma flip. Below are the two answers whose numbers we could match to an EZPZ page, in EZRA's own words. The other two leaned on figures we could not check, so we left them out. We also cut trade ideas, and marked every cut with [...].

SPY

Gamma Flip: $767.50. SPY closed at $769.66, sitting $2.16 (0.28%) above the flip. [...] Price is right on the line.

Above $767.50, dealers are net long gamma and will dampen moves by selling rallies and buying dips. That's a stabilizing force heading into the Fed. The second price breaks back below $767.50, dealers flip short gamma and start amplifying directional moves, not smoothing them. [...]

Gamma Wall: $772.00, [...] sitting $2.34 (0.30%) above spot. [...] Largest put position is $765 [...].

QQQ

Gamma Flip: $718.50. QQQ closed at $721.25, sitting $2.75 (0.38%) above the flip. Same story: above flip, in the stabilizing zone. Below $718.50, volatility amplification kicks in.

Call Wall diverges: The largest call position is actually at $720 [...]. $720 is the true call-side gravitational center. [...]

The Fed Setup

Both instruments are parked just above their gamma flip levels heading into the decision. [...] as long as both stay above their flips ($767.50 SPY / $718.50 QQQ), dealer hedging provides a cushion. [...] Below the flip, dealer hedges move pro-cyclically.

The split: short gamma in the indexes, long gamma in the AI names

Gamma exposure estimates how options dealers have to hedge as price moves. When dealers are net short gamma, their hedging tends to follow a move: they buy as price rises and sell as it falls, which can stretch a move in either direction. When they are net long gamma, their hedging tends to lean against a move instead.

Across every expiry, our estimate puts SPY and QQQ on the short side and MSFT, NVDA, AMZN and GOOGL on the long side. That is what the positioning data says about the AI trade going into Fed day: the AI names themselves carry long dealer gamma, while the index funds that hold them carry short gamma.

SPY and QQQ: above today's flip

On today's expiry, SPY closed $2.66 above its flip and QQQ $3.25 above its flip. For Friday's expiry the picture is tighter: SPY closed $0.66 above its $769 flip, and QQQ closed $1.75 below its $723 flip.

GOOGL: the one AI name below its flip

Alphabet closed at $320.58, under its $322.50 Friday flip. EZRA put its own flip at $321.25 and flagged the same thing. Of the four AI names, GOOGL is the only one below the line. Options price ±7.76% to Friday, a range of $295.71 to $345.45, and Alphabet reports after the close today.

MSFT and AMZN: above their flips, with wide priced ranges

Microsoft closed at $531.33, above its $527.50 flip, with ±6.65% priced to Friday ($495.99 to $566.67). It reports after the close today. Amazon closed at $253.10, above its $245 flip, with ±9.87% priced to Friday ($228.13 to $278.07). It reports after the close on Thursday, so Friday's options carry both nights.

NVDA: long gamma, no report this week

Nvidia closed at $217.94, above its $212.50 flip. Options price ±3.63% to Friday, the smallest range of the four AI names, and dealers carry +0.99B of gamma across all expiries.

What this data cannot tell you

  • Direction. Gamma says how hedging may react once a move starts. It does not say which way the move goes.
  • What happens after 2:00 PM. The Fed decision and tonight's reports can reset positioning in minutes, and today's expiry rolls off at the close.
  • Dealers' real books. Every gamma figure here is an estimate built from public open interest. Dealer positions themselves are not published.

FAQ

Is the AI trade about to crack?

Nobody can know that in advance. What the data shows is positioning. At the Oct 27 close, dealers were net long gamma in MSFT, NVDA, AMZN and GOOGL and net short gamma in SPY and QQQ, by our estimate. Long gamma tends to lean against moves; short gamma tends to stretch them.

What is a gamma flip?

The price where dealers' net gamma changes sign. Above it, their hedging tends to slow moves. Below it, their hedging tends to add to them. EZPZ GEX & DEX shows it for any ticker and expiry.

How big a move are options pricing for Microsoft, Alphabet and Amazon earnings?

To Friday, Oct 30, from the Oct 27 close: MSFT ±6.65%, GOOGL ±7.76% and AMZN ±9.87%, on EZPZ Gamma Exposure.

Wednesday, Oct 28, 2026 at 2:00 PM ET, with the press conference at 2:30 PM ET.
