What is the dark pool indicator (DPI)?

The Dark Pool Indicator, or DPI, is a market wide ratio of dark pool volume intensity versus its recent average. On EZPZ it is one line titled DPI, Dark Pool Pressure vs. 20-Day Average, plus Latest DPI, 7-Day Avg, 30-Day Avg, and Trend (7d). It is not a ticker tape and not a buy list.

Dark pool fills still hit the public tape after they execute. This page does not list those prints and does not rank names. It rolls the market into one DPI series by Date. Latest DPI is the most recent ratio. 7-Day Avg and 30-Day Avg sit next to it. Trend (7d) is the 7-Day Avg minus the 30-Day Avg, with an up or down arrow. The chart card is labeled DPI, Dark Pool Pressure vs. 20-Day Average. The legend is DPI. Hover a Date for DPI. A dashed gold line is labeled 1.0 neutral. Historical Data lists DATE, Avg Volume, Total Volume, and DPI. Info opens Dark Pool Indicator DPI, Reference Guide and Signal Interpretation, including What is DPI, How to Use It, and the DPI plus DIX matrix. Info says DPI greater than 1.0 is above-average dark pool activity and DPI less than 1.0 is below-average activity. Those labels are a reading aid. A ratio above 1.0 neutral is not a trade.

On EZPZ, the live chrome titles the page Dark Pool Indicator DPI. The subtitle is Institutional dark pool pressure, volume intensity vs. recent average. The range starts on 90D. Dark Pool Index (DIX) is a market wide DIX % line of labeled buy-side share, not this intensity ratio. Daily Dark Pool Amount is one ticker's Amount (M) versus Price by Date. Dark Pool Movers and Shakers is SPY Price versus running Buy Amount and Sell Amount. Dark Pool Net Flow is one ticker's Buy Amount versus Sell Amount plus Volume bars. Dark Pool Sentiment is Cumulative Net Amount (M) bars by Date. Block Trades Sentiment is Buy Premium (M) versus Sell Premium (M) by Date, plus Volume Sentiment. Largest Dark Pool By Ticker is one row per symbol for the session. Largest Single Dark Pool Trades ranks one print at a time. Dark Pool Sectors rolls the session into industry-group bars. Dark Pool Top Levels groups one ticker's prints by price. Dark Pool Flow is the all-ticker off-exchange tape. SPY Flow locks that tape to SPY. $1M+ Premium Dark Pool Flow keeps only million-dollar prints. $1M+ DP Volume Flow is the high dark-volume tape. Bullish Dark Pool Net Premium ranks names by Net Premium. Bearish Dark Pool Net Premium ranks the same Net Premium figure from the most negative reading. DarkVol Leaders ranks names by DarkVol Ratio %. Live Flow is listed options prints.

How Dark Pool Indicator works on EZPZ

Read Latest DPI first, then the averages, then the line versus 1.0 neutral. It is not a score. Most people start with whether Latest DPI sits above or below the gold line, then check Trend (7d). Change the range if 90D is too short or too long. Open Info when you want How to Use It or the DPI plus DIX matrix. Then open a tape page if you want prints behind a Date.

How this differs from DIX, daily amount, ranks, and the tape

Dark Pool Index (DIX) is DIX % Dark Pool Buyer Intent Over Time with a 45% NEUTRAL line. This page is DPI versus the 20-day average with a 1.0 neutral line. Both pages start on 90D and both open a DIX plus DPI matrix in Info. DIX is labeled buy-side share. DPI is volume intensity versus recent average. Use DIX when you want the percent tagged buy-side. Use this page when you want whether dark size is loud or quiet versus its own average. Daily Dark Pool Amount stays on one ticker and plots Amount (M) against Price by Date. This page has no ticker search. Dark Pool Movers and Shakers is today's SPY Price versus Buy Amount and Sell Amount on the session clock. DPI is a multi-day ratio, not a running session split. Largest Dark Pool By Ticker is one row per symbol. There is no ticker table here. Largest Single Dark Pool Trades ranks one large order at a time. Dark Pool Sectors is Highest Premium Inflow and Highest Volume Inflow, then Premium vs Volume bars. Dark Pool Top Levels stacks one ticker by price. Dark Pool Flow is the live tape with TIME, PREMIUM, DARK RATIO, and DIRECTION. $1M+ Premium Dark Pool Flow and $1M+ DP Volume Flow still show tape rows with a size floor. SPY Flow is SPY prints, not this DPI line. Live Flow is options, not equity dark pool pressure.

How people actually use it

Read Latest DPI against 1.0 neutral

Look at Latest DPI, then the gold line. A reading near 0.46 is a different picture than a spike that just cleared 1.0 on the chart.

Compare 7-Day Avg to 30-Day Avg

Then read Trend (7d). An up arrow next to a 7-Day Avg still near 0.35 is a small drift, not a regime change by itself.

Change the window

90D starts on. Use 30D when you only want the recent path. Use 1Y or All when a jump on the chart needs more context. Custom days plus Go sets a count the presets do not cover. Ask AiPe to show the last 60 days if you want the range changed for you.

Open DIX or the tape next

This page is a market intensity ratio, not a setup. Open Dark Pool Index (DIX) for labeled buy-side share, or Dark Pool Flow for prints.
